Wish all the readers & viewers of the Politic India portal A very Happy 74th Independence Day!
The world is facing the wrath of COVID pandemic-19 so as India. There is an urgent need for sincere global cooperation in order to get rid of this viral disease. So far nearly 20 million people are infected and over 400 thousand people have lost their lives. Millions of the people in poor and developing countries like ours are struggling for their survival as they have lost their means of livelyhood. Schools and institutions of higher learning are closed for many months. The poor and developing countries are unable to provide online education to the common children due to digital divide and various other reasons. But this pandemic has thrown the challenges to the civil society and charged the people to come out to help the needy with all the resources at their disposal. The spirited civil society helped the millions of migrant workers in India in time of great distress caused by the sudden decision of lockdown in the country. It is difficult to comprehend the basis on which such an abrupt decision was taken which plunged millions of workers into humiliating situation. But the civil society came to the fore and managed the situation. The role of the welfare state was taken over by the civil society. The preventive need of physical distancing was termed as social distancing. During this pandemic we need to have close social linkages among the people of the society. The welfare state appears to be abdicating from its responsibility.
Still we are facing tough time but it appears that the efforts of civil society will win over the problem in few coming months.
In the midst of corona pandemic, India has come out with its National Education Policy 2020. The policy aims at restructuring of school and higher education of the country in a big way. It's really a challenge for a developing country like India to achieve the best quality of education, 'second to none' along with universal enrolment at school level and 50% gross enrolement at university level within 2 decades. The policy has also put faith in the new role of philantropic or pubic spirited private institutions in fulfilling the set goal. Foreign universities will also get access.
We, on the 74th Independence of India, must resolve to make our own best efforts in achieving a happy and healthy society and keep constant vigil over our welfare state that it necessarily discharges its welfare role towards the citizens, especially downtrodden and marginal groups of the society.
